Midrand is a rapidly growing city that is 40 years in the making with links to the the national capital, Pretoria, and the business capital, Johannesburg. Amidst the diverse culture and community lies the largest single-phase mall ever built on the African continent – The Mall of Africa.

About the Mall

Different sections of the mall have been designed with Africa in mind drawing inspiration from the Sahara Desert in North Africa, the rich mineral resources in Southern Africa, the Great Lakes in East Africa, the oil wealth in West Africa and rainforests in Central Africa.

The mall is the size equivalent to 78 rugby fields. It holds the record for the largest mall in Africa ever to be built in phase. The Mall of Africa cost an estimated R5 billion to build over the span of three years and has been repeatedly won the Coolest Mall in South Africa award.

Parking and Shops

The mall offers 6,500 parking bays on three levels with both paid and free options. If you prefer open parking then consider the rooftop parking lot which has ample free parking spaces.

There are more than 300 stores inside the mall catering for every shopper. This ranges from famous international brands, like Versace, interspersed among local brands that South Africans know and love, such as Woolworths, Game, Makro and Pick n Pay.

There are some 25 food outlets in the mall with some of South Africa’s much loved brands and independent restaurants and takeaways offering a range of cuisine to patrons. The Mall of Africa also has an IMAX theatre, offering cinemagoers a more immersive viewing experience.

What else does the Mall of Africa offer?

If the standard fare of shopping, eating and watching a movie is not for you then you will not be disappointed with some of the other activities within the Mall of Africa. There is a go kart track and outdoor kiddies play area that offers hours of fun. The mall routinely hosts art exhibitions and locally-designed fashion shows.
